Unlock PDF Online

Use this tool with a password you already know to open a password-protected PDF and create a new, readable copy. The current implementation renders each page and rebuilds it as an image in a new PDF. This is a visual rebuild, not a direct removal of PDF encryption.

How to use the PDF unlocker

  1. Select the PDF file.
  2. Enter the document password you know.
  3. Click Unlock PDF and wait while pages are rendered.
  4. Download the rebuilt PDF when processing completes.

Important limitations

Because pages are rebuilt as images, selectable/searchable text, hyperlinks, forms, bookmarks, accessibility structure, digital signatures and some document features are not preserved. Output size may increase, and image quality depends on the rendering resolution. This tool does not bypass unknown passwords or grant access to documents you are not authorized to open.

Privacy and compatibility

Document processing is performed in the browser by the included libraries; the code does not upload the selected PDF to a ToolsA2Z server. Public CDN libraries must load, so an internet connection is required. Very large, damaged or unsupported PDFs may fail.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to know the password?
Yes. Enter a valid password for the PDF.

Will text remain selectable?
No. This version rebuilds pages as images, so text is not selectable or searchable.

Are digital signatures preserved?
No. Rebuilding pages as images does not preserve digital signatures or interactive PDF elements.

Does it work without internet?
The processing is local, but the page loads its libraries from public CDNs, so internet is needed to load the tool.

Can it unlock a PDF without its password?
No. It requires a password you are authorized to use.
